The Role – Manufacturing Engineer – Fabrication
To identify, manage and implement production/process improvements throughout the Fabrication Department. To ensure the efficient introduction of new and changed products and processes within the Fabrication Department.
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
Production Improvements
- Identify, lead and manage to completion the safe introduction of shop-floor based improvements throughout fabrication
- Work closely with engineering, production, and maintenance team to provide equipment utilisation, efficiently and quality
- Where necessary, design and have manufactured tooling, fixturing or equipment to improve the production process
- Accurately maintain the company’s ERP system, for process-related information (routines, cycle times etc)
- Write or assist in writing risk SOPs and other work instructions
Production Related
- Support the Production Supervisor in achieving operational KPI’s for the department
- Where required, ensure personnel are trained in new methods/techniques/processes
- Support the production team in maintaining the company’s competency management system
- Identify, propose, and execute training and development needs to achieve operational performance
- Participate in thorough investigations as a result of accidents, incidents, quality concerns
New Production Introduction
- Work closely with engineers to estimate manufacturing process costs for new products/processes
- Work closely with engineers to implement new products and processes in an efficient manner
- Where required, write specifications for new or modified equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
General
- Comply with the Company’s integrated management system requirements
Essentially, the successful candidate will have
- HNC in a manufacturing or engineering related discipline or equivalent relevant industrial experience
- Hands-on knowledge and experience of implementing production-based process improvements
- Working knowledge of lean methodology (6S, Kaizen, Line-balancing, value stream mapping, Standard Work, Visual M’ment etc)
- Practical problem-solving skills (5Y’s, Ishikawa, Is-Is Not, etc)
- Ability to co-ordinate a team to achieve a common goal
- Project management skills
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
- Competency in risk assessments / SOP’s
- IT literate with knowledge of MS Office package – Excel, Word, Powe Point
Additional but not essential skills
- Experience of fabrication processes – punching/forming/welding/painting/general hand-assembly
- Competency in Solidworks to design fixtures and tooling
- Experience of establishing and maintaining an ERP system – routing/cycle times etc
- Experience in producing manufacturing costs for products
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 / ISO 14001
Working Hours
Monday – Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm (37 hours per week)
Variable Hours Scheme – the policy allows for a Friday finish time from 12 noon.
