Bank of England visit

The quarterly economic briefing of the Northern Office of the Bank of England was honoured by the attendance of Mr. Charles Bean who is the Chief Economist and Executive Director of the Bank in London.

He is also a Member of the Monetary Policy Committee that meets every month to consider the financial situation in the UK, how it sits with the rest of the world, and determine interest rates. In order to get a broad view of the needs of business, the Committee members like to get out into the ‘real’ world’ and learn about the issues that concern others.

After the meeting Charles visited the Darlington based Henry Williams factory and had the opportunity to view, first hand, engineering at work and discuss current issues with the management.
